Google Strips Off Profile Picture, Circle Counts From Authorship Snippet In SERP

The search giant Google has announced major overhaul to its flagship SERP feature – authorship. The company is removing the profile picture and circle count from Google authorship snippet that appears in SERP.

However, Google is in no way going to remove the entire authorship snipped from the SERP, just the profile picture and the author’s circle count from the snippet in SERP. Google will continue to display authorship snippet for high quality content as usual.

Google’s John Mueller announced this update in a post on his Google+ profile a day ago. He quoted:

“We’re simplifying the way authorship is shown in mobile and desktop search results, removing the profile photo and circle count. (Our experiments indicate that click-through behavior on this new less-cluttered design is similar to the previous one.)”

This is not the first time Google launched any update to its Google+ authorship snippet. Google started to reduce authorship appearance in SERPs to hit back at low quality sites in last December.
