Facebook introduces Social Search Engine, calls it Graph Search!

Facebook finally launched its own Search Engine which it calls Graph Search! And with the launch of this stunning new feature, Facebook has put an end to hundreds of rumors that had gained ground since last week when the company started sending out invitations to selected press media to its headquarter for the mystery event.

At the time of sending invitations, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised to give a BIG SURPRISE, and with the launch of the social graph, the Facebook CEO has kept his promise!

The third pillar of Facebook

According to the company founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, News Feed and Timeline are the two base pillars of Facebook, and this all new Graph Search is going to be the third pillar of the company.

It is not about Google Search , it is about Graph Search

1 billion people, 240 billion photos and 1 trillion connections; it is all about Graph, not Google! While explaining the idea and concept of the graph search, Zuckerberg clearly said that it is not Google, it is not a web search engine, it is Facebook search engine which will help Facebook users travel through content shared with them on Facebook. This social search engine will work on phrases to what they call natural language instead of keywords on which web search engine works, quoted the company CEO. He added, Graph search is not web search. We’re not indexing the web here, we’re indexing our map of the graph, graph search is very different. For example, you need to be able to easily ask a query like “Who are my friends who live in San Francisco?”

How Graph Search Works

If you want to see how Facebook’s graph search works, type a phrase something like “Photos of my friends taken in Paris, France” (and if your photos are geotagged), you’ll get exactly that. Type “Friends of my friends who are single, male San Francisco residents who are from India” and you’ll get a hyper-specific subset of potential romantic partners, according to Stocky. Better yet, type “Photos of my friends before 1990” and you’ll get a wealth of social blackmail. At the time of announcement, the graph search is in beta (meaning it is in very early stages of development). “It’s going to take years to index the whole map of the graph. We’re going to start rolling it out very slowly.” Facebook Graph Search will be available in a limited beta beginning today, you can join the waiting list at Facebook.com/graphsearch.”It’s a really different product from anything else out there. This is who we are. We love building things like this.” Zuckerberg added!

Graph Search is privacy aware

Facebook Graph Search is privacy aware and user’s privacy has been taken care of while designing the concept and idea of Facebook graph search, said Zuckerberg. He added that every piece of content on Facebook has its own audience, and most content isn’t public. “We’ve built Graph Search from the start with privacy in mind, and it respects the privacy and audience of each piece of content on Facebook. It makes finding new things much easier, but you can only see what you could already view elsewhere on Facebook.”Your thoughts!
