CUFON & Web Design

Traditionally there has been a logical argument between the programmers/developers and web designers in terms of using the graphics for the navigation or header or even for the content of the website to keep the design aspect alive.

There were days when programmer didn't implemented this web design strategy as from a programming point of view it is not considered to be a good practice to use graphics. It used to increase the work for the developer, it was hard to maintain, requires more effort in updating and Google and other search engines didn't understand.

But as technology evolves this problem has been resolved by the invent of the technology like SIFR and now CUFON.

In simple terms, CUFON simply converts the font into a JavaScript file which on the fly on client side will render the selected elements in the required font. This is amazingly simple and has helped the web designs a lot.

The only drawback of CUFON is that the JavaScript should be enabled on the client's machine otherwise the browser will render the default web font.

However most of the browsers nowadays have JavaScript enabled which decreases the probability of having this issue.

In a nut shell this technology has formed the bridge between the developer and designers.
